Love and Hope Orphange

I have been visiting the Love and Hope Orphanage in Daegu. It is an orphanage with either (or both) mentally and physically handicapped children whose parents have given them up. Each and every one of these children are SO precious! Their eyes light up when we walk into the room to visit with them. Their faces are riveted when we read to them. We love to play with them and simply hug and cuddle them. It is such a precious experience. Seriously, these kids are like little sponges absorbing any affection you will give them.

I don't know this little one's name but she is so pretty. On my first visit I caressed her face and told her how beautiful she is. She promptly nodded her head no. I continued to tell her how pretty she was as she emphatically nodded "no" each time I told her. Finally she stopped saying no. I just pray that she can realize that she is beautiful in God's sight and in mine.

This is 11 year old Sang Woo. He is such a cutie with his infectious smile and wonderful personality. Today he sat on my lap and hugged me. As I hugged him he was full of giggles and wiggles! As I patted his back he patted mine too.

Content and Happy. I call him Smiley because that is what he does best. When we arrived at the orphange today I sat down a good distance away from him. He is unable to walk (as most of the kids are in this area of the orphange) so he ROLLS across the floor to come and visit with me. =) What a doll!

More pics to come and video too. It is truly a blessing to be able to visit these little ones. Your prayers are coveted for these dear children.

  3. Beautiful and touching. Thanks for sharing:-) I look forward to the day we can visit the http://www.bridgeoflovehome.com./ orphanage in Mexico, which is still in the start up stages when we went to help both this year and last. It will be awesome to see all the ways God is going to work in so many young lives just like this orphanage you visited.

  10. My daughter is adopted from Korea. I don't remember the orphanage, but she has Ataxia. These photos remind me of her. One difference, my daughter thinks she is the most beautiful woman ever!! LOL! Because she is Korean!! She's quite a stinker.

  14. My name is Jaci (sounds like Jackie). I am a mom to 5 kids (3 adopted from Korea). My oldest daughter was adopted at 7 1/2 years from this very orphanage. It is called Aemangwon in Korean, right? If you are going back there to visit, will you let me know? There is a 1 year old girl with vision problems that I am trying to persuade Holt International to advocate for. I would like some more photos of her. I just happened upon your blog today. I am excited to read more.
BTW, my email is jacim77@mac.com Thank you!

  15. I stumbled upon your blog trying to find volunteer opportunities for my Youth Group in NJ. We are from a korean-catholic church, so I thought it might be nice to take the kids back to their roots and do something for the needy in Korea.

Do you know of any opportunities, such as info to send quilts and such to Korean orphanages? If you have any contact info or know if the orphanage there accepts any of these things, please let me know!! my contact is nayoungjoe@gmail.com.

    God bless.

  18. Love & Hope is a wonderful place. It embodies both of the qualities in its name, and has ever since years prior to my own involvement there 1988-89. As a chaplain at Taegu (Daegu) Air Base, I led a very committed group of chapel members there for regular visits.

  19. In the late 1990’s I visited a few times with a special Korean friend to spend time with bed ridden children. Then helped an American soldier in the USA adopt a young girl. This girl was special and allowed to visit my home. This orphanage is so special as they car for bed ridden children, some with deformities. They receive the same loving care as more healthy children. I lived in an orphanage for 5 years and everyone there was was so healthy. So I understand even though disowned by parent(s) they receive so much love and care by staff, even Korean students that volunteer, the US Military, their family members, Army Chaplains and…so more than than their parents could give. God bless all that take care of these precious children.

  20. I worked with Love and Hope orphanage for 2 years in the 80's. Not all of the children there were mentally delayed. I adopted a boy with heart problems who had a stroke and a baby with spina bifida. Both are doing well and went to college. The girl is about to earn a doctorate. I wish I could let them know about the children.
